General Description:

Goldie Associates is currently seeking a motivated individual interested in starting a career and long-term employment in the water and wastewater industry. As the Field Technician / Water Distribution and Wastewater Operator Trainee you will assist the Operator in the daily operation and maintenance of the water systems, wastewater treatment plants, and the sewer collection systems to meet or exceed the DES requirements. As a trainee you are required to pass numerous standardized tests in order to obtain the required licenses to become a certified operator. Studying and test taking is mandatory.

Wastewater Responsibilities Include:

  • Check performance of the wastewater treatment plant
  • Clean screen of trash and other debris
  • Take trash and screenings to trash bin
  • Check the wastewater treatment plant equipment for proper operations
  • Record flow, pH, dissolved oxygen and temperature
  • Maintain calibration records
  • Check UV lights and clean UV per guidelines
  • Set up sampler and collect required samples per wastewater plant's ND/NPDES permit
  • Perform process sampling as needed
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with pumps, valves, and other mechanical components
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment per manufacturer's guidelines
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Add and mix chemicals
  • Deliver chemicals to wastewater plants
  • Communicate effectively with operations personnel and maintenance personnel to coordinate maintenance and repairs

Water Responsibilities Include:

  • Read water meters
  • Perform turn on and shut offs as needed
  • Collect bacteriological samples
  • Maintain chlorine calibration records
  • Check water meters to determine if meter is reading accurately
  • Replace/install water meters and meter boxes
  • Search and determine where water loss is
  • Repair small water leaks
  • Assist in leak repairs
  • Meet with DES for Sanitary Surveys
  • Perform valve maintenance
  • Flush water lines
  • Maintain accurate flushing and valve records
  • Communicate effectively with operations and utility billing personnel

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle records (Required)
  • Must be able to lift 50 plus pounds multiple times in a short period
  • Ability to understand water and wastewater systems and concepts
  • Must be able to pass "D" biological wastewater exam within 1 year
  • Must be able to pass "D" water distribution exam within 1 year

Preferences:

  • History and knowledge of basic plumbing
  • History and knowledge of electrical components
  • Experience with pumps and valves
