Powdersville Water is actively seeking a qualified candidate to fill an open Utility Locator 1 or 2 position. The ideal candidate will be safety-minded, detail-oriented, and technologically capable, with a strong desire to grow professionally. Position Overview
Utility Locator 1: Entry-level role responsible for performing utility locate requests within the Powdersville Water (PW) service area. Supports operations and maintenance tasks while developing skills and knowledge of water utility systems.
Utility Locator 2: Experienced role responsible for managing all utility location operations and ensuring compliance with state laws and Palmetto Utility Protection guidelines. Serves in a leadership capacity as PW's Safety Officer, overseeing field safety programs and promoting a strong safety culture.

Essential Duties
Common Responsibilities (Both Levels):
Receive, organize, and fulfill utility locate requests using various equipment (e.g., pipe horns, precision locators, metal detectors).
Ensure accurate and timely utility locates per state regulations and PW standards.
Maintain equipment and supplies needed for daily locating tasks.
Coordinate with internal and external utility stakeholders.
Utilize electronic platforms to track, schedule, and close locate work orders.
Assist with infrastructure repairs, maintenance, and new installations.
Participate in rotating on-call duty per PW policies.
Additional Responsibilities - Utility Locator 2:
Oversee daily utility location operations and scheduling.
Maintain compliance with all Palmetto Utility Protection guidelines and relevant laws.
Cross-train distribution operators on utility location procedures.
Attend county/state coordination meetings and manage required documentation.
Serve as Safety Officer for PW:
Lead and conduct tailgate safety talks and accident reviews.
Manage PPE inventory and issue corrective actions as needed.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, SCDOT, and internal safety protocols.
Oversee new employee safety orientations and incentive programs.
Qualifications
Required for All Candidates:
High School Diploma or GED
Valid SC Driver's License (CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 18 months)
Strong reading, writing, and basic math skills
Willingness to work after-hours on a rotating on-call schedule
Preferred:
Class C (or higher) Water Distribution Certification
Experience in utility locating, underground construction, or heavy equipment operation
