Today's North Charleston Sewer District was originally established in 1972 by an Act of the South Carolina General Assembly. Previously, wastewater collection and treatment in the North Area were accomplished by a consolidated public service district. Now operating under a nine-member Commission, the District is committed to "...construction, operation, maintenance and enlargement of...sewers and sewage treatment and disposal...necessary to protect the health of those living in the District, and to provide for the collection, treatment and disposal of sewage and industrial effluent."

Job Description:

The North Charleston Sewer District is looking to add a Capital Projects Construction Operator position effective immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Installs new wastewater infrastructure including pipes, valves, manholes, concrete, pumps, etc.
• Performs emergency repairs to the collection system including repairing and restoring
• Locates underground cable and
• Makes taps, tie-ins, and repairs broken
• Excavates with backhoe and
• Backfills and compacts utility trenches.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma;
• One (1) year of responsible related experience

• Equivalent education, training, and/or experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

• Valid South Carolina driver's license
• Obtain Class "B" minimum commercial driver's license within 12 months of employment
• Preferred Water Environmental Association of South Carolina (WEASC) Wastewater Collection Operator "D" level license

Special Qualifications:

• Use or learn to use a variety of tools such as excavator, chain cutters, pipe saw, tape measure, laser level, ; a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as dump truck, excavator, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as pvc pipe, ductile iron pipe, fittings, glue, etc
