Today's North Charleston Sewer District was originally established in 1972 by an Act of the South Carolina General Assembly. Previously, wastewater collection and treatment in the North Area were accomplished by a consolidated public service district. Now operating under a nine-member Commission, the District is committed to "...construction, operation, maintenance and enlargement of...sewers and sewage treatment and disposal...necessary to protect the health of those living in the District, and to provide for the collection, treatment and disposal of sewage and industrial effluent."

Job Description:

The North Charleston Sewer District is looking to add a Capital Projects Sr. Operator position effective immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Installs new wastewater infrastructure including pipes, valves, manholes, concrete, pumps, etc.
• Performs emergency repairs to the collection system including repairing and restoring
• Locates underground cable and
• Makes taps, tie-ins, and repairs broken
• Excavates with backhoe and
• Backfills and compacts utility trenches.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma;
• Two (2) years of sewer or construction related experience; or

• Equivalent education, training, and/or experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

• Valid South Carolina Driver's License
• Valid Class "A" commercial License with tanker endorsement
• Preferred Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) Wastewater Collection Operator "B" license licensure

Special Qualifications:

• Able to use or learn to use a variety of equipment and tools such as excavators, air compressors, jack hammer, arrow board, lateral camera, small hand tools, fork lift, shovel, ; and a variety of vehicles and equipment such as combination truck, washout truck, and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class "A" and class "B" trucks.
